Natural stone does require more maintenance than porcelain and ceramic tiles. Natural stones are porous in nature and can scratch, stain and etch easily. Use only neutral cleaners. Avoid anything acidic touching the surface of the stone. Be sure to seal regularly with a penetrating sealer. A good way to test the seal is to see if moisture beads up on the surface or absorbs. If moisture absorbs, it is time to seal. There are many products on the market to care for your natural stone. Having your stone professionally restored periodically is recommended.
